Fourteen years ago Diane Austin saw a niche in the market in New Zealand for good quality resonably priced educational toys. Soon after, she and her husband Dave winged their way to Hong Kong to visit the Toy Fair and came back to New Zealand having placed their first order for the very first Child's Play range.

Over the years the toy market and demand for quality have changed and Child's Play has risen to meet and exceed each rise. In 1999 Tolo Toys were looking for a distributor who would put the Tolo name on the NZ map. Their sales manager came to NZ, met with Dave and Diane, and NZ now has one of the highest sales per capita for Tolo Toys worldwide.

Four years ago Dave left his management role with Fisher and Paykell and joined Diane. They moved the business from their home and established themselves in beautiful new premises in East Tamaki, Auckland. The company stepped up yet another notch with the introduction of nursery lines to the well established business they were doing with Tolo Toys and Kaloo Toy and Gift along with several other smaller lines.

With the growth of the business, so to did the need for staff. Daves sister Kylie is Sales Coordinator, looking after customer orders, processing, dispatch, stock, and is in close liaison with the Sales Team. Sheryn manages the balance of the administration role in conjunction with being Daves PA. Our warehouse and distribution of the wonderful products that the New Zealand toy market are now demanding, is now managed more efficiently and effectively that ever before by Fale and Tala who is a recent addition to the team. As there is life further south than the Bombay Hills, Dave and Diane have carefully selected a great team of sales reps and agents to represent their products nationwide. Lenore looks after Northland to Taupo, Barbara covers the lower North Island and Nelson, Sarah has taken on Canterbury and the West Coast and LeeAnne covers Timaru south.

Early 2008 saw the business move again to bigger premises to house the ever expanding product range which now includes the well known Melissa and Doug range from the USA.

Dave and Diane founded their business with one major philosophy - Customer Service.  "Anyone can sell toys" says Dave, "but not everyone gives the ultimate customer service. There is never a finish line, we can always improve."
